Promethazine hydrochloride is an antihistaminic medication that relieves allergy-related symptoms including sneezing, runny nose, cough, and itchy of the nasal/oral mucosa. Codeine is a narcotic drug with moderate antitussive (cough suppressant) properties and should be avoided in children (<6 years) due to its mild respiratory depressant effects as with other narcotics. Never drink alcohol while taking narcotics. It’s not recommended to take it for a longer period or in a higher dose than prescribed and reduce your dose gradually to avoid withdrawal reactions. You should not use this medication if you have active asthma or COPD or if you are taking Sedatives, narcotics, or antidepressants. If you experience severe drowsiness (sedation) you should go to the hospital.
